The Payments section, found under Settings, is where you connect a payment gateway so students can pay for your courses, assessments, and digital downloads. eProfessor supports two options: Stripe and Paddle, each suited to a different way of handling sales.

Choosing between Stripe and Paddle

The page frames the choice simply: connect Stripe for full control, or Paddle to let someone else handle the tax paperwork.

Stripe

Stripe is the right choice if you want maximum flexibility and control over your payment processing and are prepared to manage sales tax and VAT compliance on your own, directly or through your accountant.

Paddle

Marked Hands-off taxes, Paddle acts as a merchant of record, meaning taxes and compliance are handled for you:

• 5% + 50¢ all-inclusive pricing
• Sales tax & VAT handled for you
• Built for SaaS & digital products

Paddle costs more per transaction than Stripe, but that higher rate covers tax handling you'd otherwise need to manage yourself. This is the simpler choice if you're selling internationally and don't want to deal with VAT registration and remittance across different countries.

Tips

If you're just getting started and selling primarily within one country, Stripe's lower per-transaction fee usually makes more financial sense, as long as you're comfortable handling your own sales tax.

If you're selling courses to an international audience and want to avoid the complexity of VAT compliance across multiple countries, Paddle's higher fee is often worth it for the simplicity alone.

Both Stripe and Paddle can be connected to your account at the same time, but only one is active for processing payments at any given moment. Think through which model fits your business before activating one, since switching your active gateway means reconfiguring pricing and checkout for your courses.
